    Training Description: 

    As the third branch of government, the judiciary impacts on the lives of individuals in profound ways. This power to influence lives attracts the attention of print, broadcast and social media. This interest can cause conflicts between the demands of the media and the responsibility of the court to fairly adjudicate cases. Learning how to balance the needs of the media with the needs of the judiciary can improve the entire experience, generate positive goodwill, and develop an understanding between the courts and the media.

    Judge Kevin Burke, Hennepin County District Court, Minneapolis, MN, will provide guidelines on how to build trust, listen effectively, and encourage crucial conversations - all necessary ingredients for creating effective courts. In addition to demonstrating these attributes within the court, court leaders will learn how to integrate these skills in their relationships with their counterparts outside the courts.
