Training Description: What is Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Federal Language Assistance Mandate? How do language assistance requirements impact Nevada state courts? What is the potential liability of not providing language assistance within the courts? Mr. Bruce Adelson, will provide an introductory look at Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the application of language assistance requirements to Nevada state courts, and Title VI compliance enforcement efforts by the U.S. Department of Justice. He will also discuss real-life Title VI scenarios involving language assistance and the courts, Nevada-specific demographics concerning the state’s non-English speaking population, and steps for enhancing Title VI compliance in Nevada's state courts.
