Mr. Bruce Adelson, will provide an introductory look at Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the application of language assistance requirements to Nevada state courts, and Title VI compliance enforcement efforts by the U.S. Department of Justice. He will also discuss real-life Title VI scenarios involving language assistance and the courts, Nevada-specific demographics concerning the state’s non-English speaking population, and steps for enhancing Title VI compliance in Nevada's state courts.

Most court employees and law librarians have been told they cannot give legal advice when answering questions. Many courts and law libraries have posted signs informing the public that court employees and law librarians are not allowed to give legal advice. And probably every law librarian and employee in every court in every state has, at one time or another, repeated the phrase, "I'm sorry. I'm not allowed to give legal advice."
